Second Grade SPRING News...

Spring has sprung! Here are a few reminders and some upcoming events.

Friday, April 3rd is 1/2 day. Please bring in any donated baked goods for the fish fry. Don't forget to come back for dinner and some great fish!
Wednesday, April 8th is the Last Supper prayer service. Our second grade has been working hard to prepare this for you.
Easter Break April 9th-13th.
Bounce A Thon, Wednesday, April 15th.

Happenings for the Week...

If you haven't already, bring in a baby picture for our bulletin board. Bring it in a sealed envelope marked with your name.
Wednesday is Mass for Ash Wednesday.
Thursday is our rescheduled field trip to the museum. This is a dress down day. Please have your child bring their lunch to school and include a disposable drink.
Friday is a 50 cent dress down day.

Happy Fall!

We are having a wonderful year so far. Your children are so much fun!
Some important reminders as we near the end of the month...

Monday, October 27th is Grandparent's Day. Mass will be celebrated at 9am and then the children will entertain their grandparent's by singing some fun fall songs. The children will be dismissed from their classrooms after refreshments.
Tuesday we will be visiting Kerber's Farm in North Huntington. The children will get to go on a hayride, pick out a small pumpkin, and then have an ice cream treat. Please have your child pack their lunch, as we will not return to school until after our normal lunch time and will be eating in our classroom.
Friday, October 31st we will have an early dismissal. Children may dress in costumes for school and we will have a small party. Please no weapons.
Monday, November 3rd is also an early dismissal for parent/teacher conferences.
No school on Tuesday, November 4th.

Week of October 22...

English test on Thursday. Study guide will come home Wednesday.
Grandparent's Day this Friday, October 26th. Students will be dismissed after the show. Dress Up day.
All field trip money and permission slips are due.
Next Tuesday, October 30th is our field trip to the farm.
Wednesday, October 31st is Halloween and 1/2 day. A parent from each homeroom has been notified about the party. If you signed up to help you will be notified.

Permission Slips and $ are due next Monday. Please let us know if you would like to be in the drawing for chaparones.
Next Friday, October 26th is Grandparent's Day. Students will leave after the performance.
Don't forget to return Book It! forms by the end of the month.

Week of October 8th. . .

Look for information and permission slips to come home about our field trip to Kerber Dairy farm on October 30th. Please write a note if you would like to be in the drawing for being a chaperone.
Science test this Friday, Ocober 12th. Study guide will come home on Wednesday.
Book orders due this Wednesday, October 10th.
Don't forget about our Book It! program that started this month.

This week in Second Grade. . .

Week of October 1st...

In Religion class we are discussing Baptism. Students will be given an assignment to be filled out and returned by this coming Thursday, October 4th.
We will be having a Unit 1 test in Reading. Please review all high frequency words with your child.
We begin discussing the value of Kindness.
We are taking part in a school-wide program that focuses on fitness and walking. During school the children will be wearing pedometers and tracking the number of steps in school.
Folders will be sent home only when papers are returned. They should not come home every night.

Week of September 24th...

All school mass on Tuesday.
English Test Wednesday. The study guide will come home on Tuesday.
Social Studies test Thursday.
No School Friday (28th).
This is the last week for the short option. School dress shoes must be worn with pants and skirts. No sneakers. (Except for Friday, gym day)

This week in Second Grade. . .

Science Test on Wednesday. Study Guide and book will be send home on Monday.
Reading Quiz on Julius on Thursday. Look over words nightly.
Please note that folders will not come home every night. Nightly communication will be through the Spelling composition book. Look for important notes/reminders there.
All soft-back books should be covered by this Friday at the latest.

What a GREAT start!

We are already into our third week of school! Here are a few reminders and updates for your information.

All soft-backed books should be covered by this Friday, Sept. 14th.
All students should have a pencil case, several pencils, scissors, crayons, and a glue stick.
Please sign all homework, including the folder chart for the phonics booklet.
Turn in any book orders by Wednesday, September 12th.
The Pizza Hut Book It! program starts in October.
There is no school on Friday, September 28th.
The magazine sale ends on Thursday, September 27th.

Happy Spring. . .

On Tuesday, April 3rd the second grade will be a part of the re-enactment of the Last Supper. This special prayer service will begin at 2:10pm. You are welcome to join us in the school's cafeteria.
Easter break will begin on Thursday, April 5. School resumes on Monday, April 9th.
Please have the children continue to practice their cursive writing as taught in class.
Remember to keep all of our second graders in your prayers as they get ready to receive First Holy Communion.

We hope you are staying warm. . .
Just a few reminders. . .

With the delays and cancelations some tests and assignments have had to be rescheduled. Please check the composition book daily for any new reminders.

The Wild Animals program is this Friday, February 16th. This is also a dress down day, 50 cents. The students can wear their favorite animal prints.

Be sure the children are dressing warmly. When, (and if) the temperature warms up we will be going outside for recess.

Catholic Schools Week 1/28-2/2

***The second graders have been working hard this year. Come and "Read all About Them" this Sunday at our open house!

***In Social Studies they researched famous Americans and famous places in America. See their beautiful artwork displaying what they learned.

***In Language Arts they read about and researched animals. Read their reports and see their habitat dioramas.

***Don't forget about the Book Fair in the Library through Thursday 2/1.

*Starting Monday, October 2 students are not permitted to wear the school short option. Please refer to the student handbook for dress code information.

*School pictures are on October 11th. This is a DRESS UP day. (NO jeans)

*PTG Bonfire is on Saturday, October 21st. Info. is in the Friday Folder.
*Second grade will be going to Kerber Farm on Thursday, October 26th. More information will follow via the Friday Folders soon.

*Friday, October 27th is Grandparents' Day. Students are dismissed after the program. (K-3 ONLY) More info. to come soon.

*Book It starts this month. Students are to read 150 minutes during October.

Hello Second Grade Families;

This year has gotten off to a terrific start!

Homework:

Please remember to check the spelling composition book for all homework and test reminders.

There will be additional math and reading homework with the nightly spelling assignments. Incomplete homework will affect grades.

Some reminders for October. . .

With the new month comes the change in the dress code. We are suggesting that the boys wear ties to mass on scheduled mass days. We would like them to get in the practice of wearing their ties.

Book orders are due on Monday, October 10th.

Way to Go!!! We have read 100 books in class and each child has earned a free book from Troll. Coupons will follow in our next order.

School pictures will be on Wednesday, October 12th.

We are going to Kerber Farms on Thursday, October 20th. More info. will come home in the F. Folders.

Grandparents Day is Friday, October 28th. More info. will be sent home soon.

Halloween outing to Ridgewood Place and our party will be held on Monday, October 31st.
